Rainbow Cottage has a separate play and sleeping area for under 2s while maintaining interaction with older children.

Under 2s area

We have a dedicated space (inside and out) for children under 2. The maximum number of children under 2 at one time is 8.

The under 2 outside area is separated from the over 2 area by only a fence. This ensures the younger children can see what the older children are doing and feel a part of it. Older children are encouraged to play and help out in the under 2 area.

Our babies are kept safe in their own little area from fast wheels and bigger feet when there are activities such as bikes taking place in the over 2 area. The under 2 outdoor area floor covered with safety matting of the highest quality (Playmatta) and covered overhead with UV filtered roofing.

Activities

Each day, activities are set up according to the developmental needs and interests of the babies. For example, a baby interested in crawling may have tunnels and gym mats set up to encourage these developmental milestones. Our resident pets often pay a visit to the under 2 area, much to the delight of the children.

Sleep

A record of sleep, nappy changes, food/milk and activities are kept throughout the day. We have a separate sleep room for the under 2s.

Children sleep and eat according to their individual routines.
